Sangha
The monastic community at Serang Gompa is currently approximately fifty monks and fifty nuns, who, unusually for Buddhism, are all educated equally. There are also 30 young monk children. This Sangha is the heartbeat that nourishes each other, the surrounding village communities as well as holding the vision for the Primary School on its land.
The monastery manages to run on a very meagre budget of approximately $55,500 a year; an expenditure of $550 per monk or nun each year. Nevertheless, its future is now financially threatened as the dwindling local population is unable to provide the monastery with the support that it once did.
Donating to Serang Gonpa is a beautiful way to have an ongoing relationship with the community there, and to ensure that this very special place is able to flourish.
